Built-in TV Cabinet: How to Design It to Hide Cables and Ensure Practical Use

A truly "sleek" built-in TV cabinet isn't just about the front panels; it's about the electrical wiring system, power outlets, and equipment compartments designed before production.
This article provides practical tips for both condos and houses, ensuring seamless cable concealment and easy accessibility.

1) Start with the "Equipment Checklist" before designing.

Have the customer specify (or take a photo of the actual item) to determine the correct slot/plug.

  • TV size (inches) + mounting or placement position

  • Soundbar / Speaker / Subwoofer

  • Android/Apple TV box, True box, router, switch

  • Game console (PS5/Xbox) or other

  • Do you need LED hidden lights?

Why it matters: If you don't know the real thing, you'll leave the wrong clearance → Wrong cord / overheating / won't fit

2) Place the "plug point" in the correct position (the key to hiding cables)

Points that should be included (at minimum)

  • Plug behind the TV (for direct TV connection)

  • Plug in the device port (for the box, router, or game console).

  • Cable grommet (cable opening) from the TV down to the equipment compartment

Tip: The TV plug should be located "in the center of the back of the TV," not too low, otherwise the cord will be exposed.

3) Create a "conduit" without visible wires.

The most effective method is to make the cable "run behind the cabinet" instead of running in front of it.

  • Create a vertical cable channel behind the TV panel (fully concealed).

  • Drill holes with protective rubber for cable routing at two points: behind the TV and in the equipment slot.

  • Separate channels for power cables and signal/LAN cables to reduce signal interference.

4) Leave space for "heat vents" to prevent the box from overheating.

TV Box/Router/Game Console "Overheats Easily" - If Fully Covered, It Will Break Down Quickly
Recommendation:

  • The equipment compartment should have a rear vent or a removable panel for ventilation.

  • If it is necessary to seal it completely, drill ventilation holes or create gaps at the back.

  • Game consoles should allow more space "around them" compared to a typical TV box.

Many cases have hidden beauty, but the device overheats and shuts down due to poor ventilation.

5) Design the "height–depth" to look good and be truly functional.

The main factors to consider:

  • Eye Level: The center of the TV should be at eye level when seated.

  • Shelf depth: If you have a soundbar or box, ensure there is sufficient depth.

  • Base cabinet: The best place to hide plugs and equipment + additional storage

6) Zone separation for easy use (not cluttered)

Popular and Practical Frameworks:

  • TV Zone (Top): Hang or place

  • Equipment Zone (Middle/Bottom): Box/Router/Game

  • Storage Zone (Lower Cabinet): Drawer/Door

  • Showcase Zone (Side/Top): Glass display cabinet + Hidden lighting (if desired)

7) If you want a "smooth finish," you can enhance the premium look with these three options.

  • Push-to-open or concealed handle → Clean front appearance

  • LED hidden lights in warm tones → help make the TV wall appear more dimensional

  • Wall-to-ceiling cabinet → Store more items + Full wall view

8) Information to be sent to FAST TRACK DECOR for evaluation/quick design:

You can send these three items.

  1. Wall dimensions (width × height) + approximate desired depth

  2. Site photo + original plug position

  3. Equipment List (TV/Box/Router/Game Console/Soundbar)

Example text (Copy directly):
"TV wall, 3.2 m wide, 2.6 m high, requiring a bottom cabinet with a depth of 0.40 m.
for a 65-inch TV + soundbar + True box + router, with all cables hidden.
Laminate surface in wood-white tone, and a glass display cabinet with hidden lighting."

In summary:

Built-in TV cabinet with seamless cable hiding and practical use must fulfill 3 requirements:
✅ Properly positioned power outlets
ⅲⅮ Cable pathways from TV to equipment slots
ⅲⅮ Equipment slots with proper ventilation
